Transformation WIP

I normally wouldn't post such rough sketches... but I am really loving the look of this thus far!
Here's the sketch for my Creature Creations transformation scene.
I decided to give it a Sailor Moon majestic feeling but add my own twist.
I'll have the final result in tonals within these next couple of days if not tomorrow.

Creature Creation - Dora

Here's my creature creation for our Life Drawing assignment.
Thus I came up with Dora, the Giraowdeebee (giraffe, cow, deer and bumblebee), to try and stray away from the general blood covered, saliva spewing monster of a mess.
Now... all that's left is to somehow create a transformation scene with a human turning into Dora....
...All I can picture is Sailor Moon. haha!

Happy Birthday Scott!!

Happy birthday Scott Caple!!!

Scott has been a huge inspiration to me since as far back as I can remember...
He's unbelievably talented at his craft and an overall very kind man.
It's been an absolute honour getting the chance to meet up with him on a few occasions during my animation adventure at Sheridan and I couldn't help but sketch him up something!

If you guys haven't checked out his work yet, you can find Scott's artwork here.
(Link is also listed to the left)

Thanks for all of the years of inspiration Scott!
Have yourself a great day!

Royal Winter Fair 2013

Woo hoo! Another successful year at the Royal Winter Fair!!
This is by far one of my favourite events of the year!
Here's a little something I did some extra work on once I got home... This didn't actually happen but I wouldn't be surprised if one day it did!

More drawings to come!

Lonely Rain - WIP Shot

I'm often asked how I do my initial sketches for a drawing, so I decided to share this!
Here is a WIP shot of one of my latest pieces, Lonely Rain, featuring an elderly homeless man.
I'll explain this piece in full once it is completed keep your eyes open!

I've been playing around with some soft colouring styles and really liked how this turned out.
It almost reminds me of a child's story book...

Team Caricature Clean Up

These are the caricatures done of everyone in our 3rd year group film team for the display case!
Everyone on the team had roughly drawing a caricature of themselves and it was my job to clean them up and add some colour.
In order from left to right, the team members are:

Chris Yau, Jean-Samuel Roux, Pierre Vanderweerd, Annie Jang, Lea Li,
Patricia Lestari, Devyn Motyliwski, Krystal Ruplall, Kat Rush, Anna Chan,
Anthony Mannings, Krista-Marie Porter.

All drawings are (c) to their respectful artist. I only take credit for drawing myself, doing the clean up on every drawing and the colour. The rough sketches are not shown here...

AAA Pitch Package

The pitch package for my action analysis has been completed!
My action will be Charlie the dog running towards the bedroom door and jumping up to the knob in attempts to open it.
I'm really excited to start bringing this little guy to life!

The photographs shown on Page 5: References are not mine.
I do not own them nor do I claim them as my own.
All credit goes out to the photographers! :)

Black Hearted Evil or Brave Hearted Hero?

Here is the final piece to my Heroes and Villains assignment!
I really enjoyed taking on the challenge of trying to draw such a dynamic pose with different angles... I think it came out well!
The background in the image was a photograph I shot while in Las Vegas and added filters to in Photoshop to give it a more comic book like feel.

Drawing one of 2 for the heroes and villains assignment.

A huge thanks to my friend Chris for helping me with the colour choice for our hero!
You saved him from looking like superman! :)

Faces with Conte

I found a couple faces in my life drawing pad that I felt were worth sharing!

AAA Character Rough

Here's my rough character concept for my action analysis assignment: Charlie.
His design is being critiqued in class this Friday and as such, I am very excited to see what I can do to sharpen this little guy's overall look!
(Or for this project... more animated)

Life Drawing in Markers

Today in class we started drawing the model with markers versus conte.
I decided to take advantage of this time and get down some quick drawings for our hero and villain project.
Funny enough, it wasn't until I got home that I realized the model today was facing the exact same way all class... haha.

Kidney Stones

Living with two pesky kidney stones is far from fun.
These little buggers got me stuck in emergency for two days ahaha!...

For You - Keys

These drawings of Ackson and I were requested by youtube user ChillyWillyTube as part of his "Goodbye AcksonL" video.
I had a lot of fun planning key frames for this and even though the final product was never fully animated, it was a good exercise to get my head back in the animation groove.

It's Getting Hot Outside

We've been having some crazy hot weather outside lately!
Hopefully things cool down soon...
I don't usually draw my human characters with large eyes, but I was extremely inspired by Chris Sanders and decided to play around with both his and my style.

7 Shades of Grey

I was doodling around in Toon Boom again but this time I decided to try out the pencil tool versus the brush.

Welcome to Toon Boom

First time messing around with the Toon Boom Harmony.
Not too sure what I created but hey, welcome to both Third Year Animation and Toon Boom Harmony!

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone! Let's start the day off with a little bit of colour! Enjoy!

Odd Love

I love drawing Porcupines! They have such an amazing face shape and their head quills look like hair!
Although... I think getting close enough to snuggle one might be a challenge.

Anteater character Turk (c) Krista-Marie Porter all rights reserved.

Long time no see!

I'm sure all artists have that one original character that means the world and more to them...
I haven't drawn her in a while, but this is my original character Qwuzanku who was created by me back when I was a kid in 2006.
(Making her 7 years old! Wow!)

Although the character is stuck with a rather odd name, many of my most memorable art adventures began with this little lass.
It really feels nice to draw her again after so long haha.

Warm Up!

These new brushes I got for Photoshop are absolutely amazing! Here's a warm up drawing for today! Enjoy!

Sketchbook - Water Colour Bridges

I've always loved bridges... the older, rustier and broken it is the better! Here's a couple quick 2-5 minute water colour sketches of some bridges. Enjoy!

Commission for dejavudea

Just recently I was commissioned by a very well known cosplayer, dancer and youtube vlogger, dejavudea.
She asked if I would be able to design her a banner for her facebook fanpage to which I happily accepted!
I had a blast with this project because it really helped me with learning how to capture people I know in person down on paper. Or... in this case, pixels!

You can find dejavudea here:

Friend Sketches

A couple quick sketches done of two of my friends, Brenda (both in and out of cosplay) and Ria.

When We Fist Met

Good evening everyone.
I'm late on posting this publicly, but here is the digital image I did for my boyfriend on his birthday.
I decided that it would be a lot of fun to draw us both from when we first met... and surely enough, we were both in costume haha!

This picture was then cut out and put into a frame along with a traditional sketch.
Happy Birthday Ackson! xo
